3M 1600TG is a high-performance double coated structural foam tape based on high-density EPE polyethylene foam. It is coated on both sides with a premium acrylic adhesive system designed for demanding structural bonding applications. The tape delivers strong initial tack, high ultimate bond strength, and excellent long-term shear resistance.
The acrylic adhesive provides reliable adhesion on a wide range of substrates, including plastics (including low surface energy plastics), metals, wood, and painted surfaces. It maintains stable performance under high temperature, vibration, humidity, and other harsh industrial conditions, ensuring durable and long-lasting bonding without failure.

Bond Strength Development
After application, the adhesive gradually wets out and penetrates the substrate surface, increasing bond strength over time:
- 20 minutes: approximately 50% of ultimate bond strength
- 24 hours: approximately 90% of ultimate bond strength
- 72 hours: 100% full bond strength achieved
Bond formation is influenced by temperature and substrate conditions. Higher temperatures accelerate curing, while lower temperatures slow the process.
Performance can be improved by:
- Heating at 66°C (150°F) for 1 hour to enhance wet-out
- Light surface abrasion (~180 grit) to improve adhesion
- Using primers or adhesion promoters for difficult substrates
Storage & Shelf Life
Store in a controlled environment at 4°C–38°C (40°F–100°F) with 0%–95% relative humidity.
Recommended storage condition: 22°C (72°F) and 50% RH.
When stored in original sealed packaging, the product maintains stable performance for up to 24 months from the date of manufacture.
